Sunday to remember for the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team, which took victory in Race 2 at Most thanks to a fantastic performance by Can Oncu. Aldi Mahendra also performed well, with 7th at the finish line after a smart race.
At the start Oncu again made an excellent start, immediately taking the lead. In the following laps the Turkish rider remained in the group fighting for the victory: on lap nine Can regained the first position with a powerful overtaking move in turn one, starting his solitary escape to victory. For Oncu it was his third win of the season, his fourth in WorldSSP.
Fantastic start for Mahendra, who was able to close the first lap in sixth position and was also fighting for the podium. As the race went on, Aldi lost ground to the front, resulting in more than one duel in the second group. The end of the race, however, again smiled on the Indonesian rider, who was able to climb up to 7th position. Sixth race in a row in the top ten for Mahendra, who confirmed his growth.
By virtue of the weekend's results Oncu now occupies fourth position in the overall standings, with 122 points, while Mahendra is in P10 with 53 points. In the team classification the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team occupies third position with 175 points, only 12 less than the first place. The Ravenna based team will be back on track from 13th to 15th of June in Misano, for round six of the World Supersport Championship.
Aldi Mahendra
“For the first time I experienced the fight for the podium, and it was really good. As the race went on I lost a bit, but that can happen and I gained a lot of useful experience for the future. The weekend ended in a very positive way, and this allows me to be very confident for the future, starting with the next round at Misano”.
Can Oncu
“It was an incredible race! Now I'm really happy, and I'm looking forward to some holidays with a smile on my face. I was so eager to redeem myself after yesterday, and everything went as I hoped: once I took the lead I was able to get away and win. I really thank the team for all their work over the weekend: they deserved this result and now we can celebrate together. The championship is long, we have to think race by race and continue to get valuable results”.
Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)
“This victory is a reward for the whole team, which worked excellently over the weekend. Can has learnt from Race 1 and today he avoided mistakes and put up a really breakout: I'm happy for him. Aldi took further steps forward, also showing himself in the podium zone, which is certainly important. We end the weekend with a smile, we are working well and we have to continue like this”.
