Oncu! Oncu! Second win of the year for Can in Race 2 at Assen, Mahendra confirms top ten with attitude

Exciting Sunday for the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team, which took its second win of the season at Assen. The signature was again of Can Oncu, who triumphed at the end of an exciting duel. It was also a strong race for Mahendra, who crossed the finish line eighth after a race that was spent for large stretches with the fastest riders in the category.

In the morning the rain fell on Assen, with Oncu and Mahendra who preferred to avoid risks by not taking to the track for the Warm Up, but the improving conditions allowed Race 2 to be held on a dry track. When the lights went off Oncu got off to the best possible start, finishing the first lap in third position. As the race went on, Can and Manzi made the difference against their rivals, coming to play for the win in a splendid duel on the last lap.

The Turkish rider launched his attack at the last chicane, with Manzi forced to cut the corner in an attempt to resist. For this reason Manzi - who had passed first under the chequered flag - was penalised by one position, resulting in victory for Oncu. For the Turkish rider it’s his second win of the season.

Mahendra made an excellent start from P9, immediately joining the group fighting for the podium. With eight laps to go, a mistake in the final part of the track relegated him to ninth position, with Aldi able to make up ground and finish eighth, thus equalling yesterday's result.

By virtue of the weekend's results Oncu occupies fourth position in the overall standings with 77 points, while Mahendra occupies 12th position with 20 points. The Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team will be back in action from 2 to 4 May at Cremona, for the fourth round of the season.

Aldi Mahendra
“It was a great race, where I fought for the top positions and was able to learn a lot from the more experienced riders. I dreamt of the podium for a moment, then I made a mistake which cost me time, but I am happy with the P8 finish. It was a really positive weekend, I can look forward to the future with confidence”.

Can Oncu
“After yesterday's chaos, the race was more linear, and it ended in the best way. The team had advised me to stay calm and so I did: I also thank the team for all their work in the box, as the bike was fantastic today. To win at this track, where I had the worst crash of my career, is really significant and opens a new chapter. I am overjoyed, I can't wait to get back on track at Cremona”.

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)
“A really brilliant day for the whole team. Can made a perfect race, with the right mix of concentration and character: on the last lap he attacked in the best way, and really deserved the victory. I am happy for him, as a win at this track is special for him. I am also very pleased with the race of Aldi, who breathed the air of the podium for the first time. He made a mistake afterwards, but it can happen, especially for a young rider like him, and despite everything he achieved another top ten finish, which certifies his improvement. I am really satisfied with the whole team”.
