Fantastic Friday for the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team, which at Assen can celebrate the second pole position in a row for Can Oncu, who confirms his great speed. Positive Superpole also for Aldi Mahendra, who fights for the top ten and gets P14 at the end of the session.
In the morning the only free practice session available was staged, useful to start taking the measures of the bike and the track. Oncu put in 17 laps, taking second position, while Mahendra ended the session with the same number of laps and the 16th position.
In the afternoon Aldi and Can returned to the track for Superpole. Oncu gradually improved his times, until he reached the top with an astonishing 1'36"184, which earned him pole position, more than half a second ahead of the first chaser and the track record. For the Turkish rider it is the second pole position in the category.
Good answers also from Aldi Mahendra, who, after entering the top ten a few minutes from the end of the session, took 14th on the grid. Now everything is ready for the races. Tomorrow - at 15.15 CET - Race 1 will be staged over the distance of 18 laps.
Aldi Mahendra
“The first laps with a more powerful bike on this track were not easy, but one step at a time I improved and also the chronometer confirmed it. For Race 1 I hope to improve further, but for the moment the weekend is off to a positive start”.
Can Oncu
“I am really happy. I worked hard before this round, but I honestly did not expect this pole position, as I struggled a bit in the morning. Thanks to the advice of the people close to me and the work of the team I was able to improve, and this splendid result has arrived. I don't want to set myself any goals but the bike is fantastic so I want to achieve something important. I don't have pleasant memories of this track, but now things are different and I'm ready to have fun”.
