Odendaal climbs to 6th in Race 2, positive top ten for Sebestyen

Race Sunday for the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team at the French circuit of Magny - Cours, with Steven Odendaal and Peter Sebestyen making two positive comebacks. The two riders of the reigning World Champion team in fact achieved a better result than their starting positions, obtaining respectively the 6th and 10th position.

At 9.25 the warm up started, where both riders tried to refine the set-up of their Yamaha YZF-R6 bikes, without focusing particularly on lap times. Steven completed eight laps, finishing the session in 13th position, while Sebestyen (with the same number of passes) 23rd. Late in the morning (12.30) the lights went out for Race 2, but it was interrupted after not even one lap due to a multiple accident at the front of the race.

As in Race 1, a second start was called for, with the race shortened to 12 laps. Starting from P12 (due to the absence of Debise) Odendaal immediately began his comeback, obtaining sixth position on lap 4. In the following laps it was impossible for the South African rider to catch up with the leading group, who had to be content with sixth place overall.

Peter also had a good start, starting from P15 and quickly approaching the top ten. Thanks to a constant race pace the Hungarian rider was able to close the gap that separated him from the tenth place, gained during the ninth lap and maintained until the finish line. As a result of today's results, Odendaal remains in second position in the overall standings, with 240 points, while Sebestyen has 21 points.

The Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team is third in the team standings, just seven points behind second place. After the French round the Ravenna-based team will be back on track on September 17-18-19 at the Barcelona circuit for the eighth round of the 2021 World Supersport Championship season.

Steven Odendaal: "Today's race was slightly more difficult than yesterday's as I didn't manage to get on the podium. Honestly, we haven't had the pace to win all weekend, so it's okay. Now we have a track that I like for some reason, so I'm staying positive”.

Peter Sebestyen: "Analysing yesterday's race we realised that the best set up for Race 2 would be the one from Superpole: we used it and it went well. I felt strong right from the start and when I had a clear path I was able to keep a good pace. I need to improve on my speed with the new tyres, but I'm happy with what I've achieved and I can look forward to the next races with a lot more confidence".

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal): "The double start didn't benefit us for some reasons, but apart from that Steven made a positive comeback today, while yesterday he made a small miracle. The crash on Friday didn't help us, so today's result is even more valuable. I liked Peter, because after having found the right confidence with the bike he rode a good race, recovering positions and being fast. I give him a seven on the report card”.
