Baldassari battles and comes close to the podium in Race 2, difficult Sunday for Sebestyen

Challenging Sunday for the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team, who took to the track at the Montmeló circuit for Race 2 of the Catalan round. A race that only partially repaid the efforts of the Ravenna-based team, with Lorenzo Baldassarri a solid 4th and Peter Sebestyen 20th.

Day 3 in Barcelona started as planned with the warm up, where Lorenzo and Peter were able to work on the details of their Yamaha YZF - R6. Baldassarri completed 7 laps in total, finishing 7th, while Sebestyen was 29th with 8 laps. With the final preparations completed, Race 2 got underway at 12.30.

Baldassarri made a good start from 4th place, immediately getting into the fight for victory. In the second part of the race Lorenzo - together with Oncu, Aegerter and Manzi - managed to get away, ready to play for the win in the final laps. Here, however, the Italian rider was forced to raise his pace, losing ground to his rivals and having to settle for a still very positive 4th place.

More complicated race for Sebestyen. Protagonist of a negative start, the Hungarian rider managed to recover positions in the early stages, returning to the fight for points, only to lose positions again in the second half of the race, passing under the chequered flag in 20th position.

By virtue of the weekend's results Baldassarri remains in second position in the overall standings, with 300 points, while Sebestyen remains on 21 points. In the team classification the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team maintains second position, with 321 points. The team from Ravenna will be back on track from 7th to 9th October at the Portuguese circuit of Portimao, for the ninth round of the 2022 season.

Lorenzo Baldassarri:
"In the first part of the race everything went in the right way, while in the final part I suffered from the overheating of the rear tyre first and then the front one, which forced me to settle in the final. On days like this it's better to pick up the maximum, as we did: the championship is still long, and we have no intention of giving up".

Peter Sebestyen:
"Unfortunately the lack of data due to yesterday's crash didn't help. In the first few laps I struggled, while at the end I had better feelings, but by then it was too late. It was not the weekend we wanted: we will try again at Portimao".

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal):
"Lorenzo was really fast, pushing hard right from the start. He tried to take a margin over his rivals, but it didn't go as hoped, and the subsequent tyre failure forced him to settle. Fourth place is a good result, which keeps us in the fight for the top of the championship standings. Peter unfortunately did not find the right rhythm, perhaps also due to yesterday's crash: we will try to understand the reason. With both our riders we will try to improve further at Portimao".
