Baldassarri makes no mistake and takes a beautiful podium in Race 2, important points for Sebestyen

It was an exciting Sunday for the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team, who in a crazy Race 2 at the Estoril circuit took another beautiful podium, thanks to Lorenzo Baldassarri. Important points also for Peter Sebestyen, 13th under the chequered flag. The day opened under the banner of bad weather, with rain intermittently visiting the Portuguese track both during the night and in the morning.

The warm-up thus took place in wet conditions: Baldassarri, author of a crash without consequences at turn six, put together five laps, finishing the session in 7th position. Sebestyen instead completed seven laps, finishing 16th. At 12.30 local time the race got underway, immediately marked by the arrival of light rain, not enough to force the drivers to change tyres but capable of making the track very treacherous.

After a good start from P4 Baldassarri immediately became part of the leading group, occupying the first place for a few laps: at the end the Italian rider found himself fighting for third place, which he managed to conquer by masterfully beating his rivals. Positive start also for Sebestyen, who was able to climb the classification up to 12th position at the halfway point of the race, despite the impervious conditions. In the second part of the race, the Hungarian rider defended himself well, gaining 13th place.

By virtue of these results Baldassarri strengthens his second position in the championship, with 101 points. In the team classification the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team occupies second place, with 106 points. After the Estoril round the WorldSSP championship will return to the track over the weekend of 12 June, at the Misano World Circuit "Marco Simoncelli".

Lorenzo Baldassarri:
"It was a difficult race but I'm happy because we had a good weekend. I managed the race well today: I wanted to mark Aegerter and attack him in the finale, but unfortunately fighting with other riders I lost some time, which he took advantage of to escape. I'm looking forward to racing at Misano, in our home round".

Peter Sebestyen:
"It was a difficult race. In the first few laps I felt good, but after I struggled a lot. It’s a disappointing situation, but I think that me and the team can solve it”.

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal): "We are very happy with Lorenzo's podium. He did a great race, giving everything from start to finish, even if there is a pinch of regret for losing points to Aegerter in the overall standings, who should be congratulated anyway. Peter had a very good first half of the race, then he had a small dip, the reason for which we still have to understand. Overall it was a complicated race, because of the conditions, and both of our riders performed well".
